Getting
Started Buying
your home's first system? Replacing your current one? Just
upgrading a single component? Here are some simple guidelines
to help you through the process. Finding
the ideal system starts with asking the right questions Evaluate
your current home environment and identify your unique comfort
needs. Start by answering the following questions:
-
Does
your heating and air conditioning bill seem too high?
-
Is
your indoor unit or your outdoor unit (or both) too noisy?
-
Do
you have a problem with humidity in the summer? Dry air in
the winter?
-
Are
there any rooms in your home that are always too hot or
too cold?
-
Do
you have pets or do any family members suffer
from allergies?
-
Do
you have problems with lingering cooking odors?
-
Does
your system run all the time?
-
Does
your furnace short-cycle, constantly turning off and on?
-
Is
your system easy to maintain, with a filter that’s easy
to get to and change?
-
Is
your outdoor unit unattractive and not aging well?
-
Is
your outdoor unit backyard-safe?
-
Is
your system still covered by a warranty?

Before
your appointment
-
Take
inventory of your system. Make a note of the model numbers
on your current equipment. Search your files for the
available paperwork. You should also be able to find the
model numbers on the units themselves.
-
Be
prepared to talk with your Trane dealer about your
geographic location, and the structure of your home—not
to mention the specific comfort needs of you and your
family. These are especially important if you're in the
market for the first time, or putting a system in a home
where there has never been a central system.
-
Make
sure the dealer performs a thorough structural analysis of
your home. This will help determine the proper-sized
system for your home. This analysis will include a load
calculation to determine the proper type and size of your
new Trane system.
-
Think
about financing. Remember, you're investing in your
year-round comfort—not to mention the long-term comfort
of you and your family.
-
Prepare
for installation day. Your Trane dealer will probably
bring a couple of people with him to assist in the
installation process.
-
Have
your dealer program the thermostat setting for you, go
over the owner’s manual, and walk you through the
(minimal) maintenance you will need to do yourself. Review
the warranty information for your specific models.
